Pop goes the Warhol . . . !
Hi Jennifer and Lila, you're daughter is so cute! Recently Andy Warhol has hit the big time with a sale of his1962 "200 One Dollar Bills" painting at Sotheby's in New York for $43.8 million! That's about $40 million more than expected.
I have been a huge fan Andy Warhol and have several coffee table books of his work and life. I believe that even Andy himself who died in 1987 would be surprised at what this painting sold for. Art historians consider the painting to be the beginning of the "Pop Art" craze that swept the world and lasted well into the 70's.
The Warhol story is captured in a new book called The Genius of Andy Warhol and after reading the reviews I immediately went out and bought it. Warhol is my kind of crazy and his desire to be rich and famous made him even more famous and rich. His love of money and painting money itself because he thought it was beautiful is so perfect. Everyone is famous for 15 minutes is a statement he made in 1968 and he was asked about it almost everyday after that until his death. Even his death is incredible!
As all of you on the friends blog know I always go to new art openings with friends and it's such a good time. In London, art is a big deal and the galleries are incredible.
Anyway, I was excited about the sale and the new book and thought all of you would be as well.
